Fabrics used on our models:
👉 Green dress made from a dyed vintage embroidered tablecloth, slit-free version
👉 Floral dress sewn from a vintage curtain, with added rickrack inserted in the seams.

Supplies needed

You will need:

  • 15mm fusible straight grain: from 90 to 120 cm depending on the size.
  • Invisible zip, 40 cm.

[Version 1 - The long dress]

  • Main fabric:

‣ 180 cm x 140 cm width for sizes 34-36
‣ 185 cm x 140 cm width for sizes 38-42
‣ 200 cm x 140 cm width for sizes 44-48
‣ 230 cm x 140 cm width for sizes 50-52

[Version 2 - The short dress]

  • Main fabric:

‣ 125 cm x 140 cm width for sizes 34-36
‣ 130 cm x 140 cm width for sizes 38-42
‣ 145 cm x 140 cm width for sizes 44-48
‣ 165 cm x 140 cm width for sizes 50-52

Fabric & upcycling tips

Recommended fabrics:

  • Main fabric: for a flowing dress, choose a lightweight cotton (poplin, voile, batiste, percale) of 100 to 150 g/m². You can also use linen, ramie or tencel of 150 to 200 g/m².

Ideas for creating the dress using upcycling:

  • Antique embroidered cotton or floral linen sheets
  • Linen or cotton voile curtains
  • Patchwork of wide poplin shirts
